Christmas Fair At The Swords Castle

Christmas Fair at the Swords Castle

After 2 long years, being at a Christmas fair feels energizing. The crispy smell of popcorn, the chatter of children blending into the yipping of puppies, and the feel of hot chocolate in your mouth while shivering in cold. Sounds beautiful right. I have to say, it felt even more wonderful.

The Swords Castle was built around 1200 AD and is located in the ancient town of Swords, Dublin. The beautiful Swords Town Park is located right next to it. The Swords Castle is around a 30 minute drive from the city center. Castle tours are available as this beauty was restored. Fingal Tourism organizes this on demand basis. I have attached their link in the Sources below.

A free audio guide can be downloaded by those who are interested to know more about the history of Swords. This is an even greater idea if you are planning to make a visit to the historical town of Swords. Sources contain its link below as well. A self guided walking tour through the streets of Swords, while knowing how this town came to be, sounds like a wonderful idea, right. I am definitely going add this to my bucket list.

The Christmas Fair

The Christmas fair held at the Swords Castle, was filled with stalls ranging from beautiful Christmas decorations to aromatic candles and soaps, to various Irish board games. There were also stalls with tasty cupcakes, decorated stones and pebbles, cute little dresses for your pets, as well as mini-gardens. The variety of stalls was endless.

We had a fun time exploring the different stalls. The first stall we visited, had stones which were painted on by beautiful designs, and could be used as decorations. Devu loved it. She also liked another one, where they had designed the pebbles in the form of family pictures. There was a stall called “mini-gardens” which included cute little figurines like Harry Potter in their small gardens. She was absolutely fan struck by it. Then, Devu got the sweet smell of candy floss and there was no looking back. We moved to the cozy tents with patio heaters to snack on candy and burgers, along with hot lattes.

Bhavi loved the ginger-man cookie and happily munched on it until she felt sleepy and wanted to get out of the stroller. Then she slept in her baby carrier while we explored the rest of the fair. My husband, Anish, was the official photographer for our trip, as usual. He took all the photos that you can see here.

Devu loved the dreamcatcher that she bought from “Boho Floral”, as well as the decorated stones. We enjoyed this fair a lot because of two reasons. The first one is that, it felt awesome to be walking around seeing happy faces, and last but not the least, the local shops would get a better chance to thrive when such fairs happen.

When Does The Fair Open

The Christmas fair at the Swords Castle took place on 27th and 28th, November, 2021. This will be held again on 4th and 5th, December, 2021 (Saturday and Sunday), from 11am to 6pm.

I have linked a few stalls below, for those who are interested to know more about them.
